Read, Reflect, Discuss: So You Want to Talk About Race (Part 1)

A book club meets Shared Interest Group, we are intentionally bringing a group of young adults together to read and discuss relevant literature on racial consciousness and social responsibility in community. We’ll be starting with the book So You Want to Talk About Race by Ijeoma Oluo.

Here’s how it works:
1. Register to officially join the group through the form below. Participants must register in advance to receive the Zoom information prior to the sessions.

2. Purchase or rent So You Want to Talk About Race from the retailer of your choice, in print, digital, or audio book form. (Please don’t let cost be a barrier to participation. If you need financial assistance, please reach out to marisa@meetyouatthewell.org).

3. Start reading! Our first Zoom session is meant to be a halfway point check-in and discussion. You don’t have to be exactly half-way, but you can use that as a guide to pace yourself with the rest of the group.

4. Mark your calendar for Sunday, July 12 at 3:00pm, and join The Well staff on Zoom to discuss your reading experience so far. What have you learned? What’s surprised you? How has this book differed from your expectations? What are you looking forward to tackling in the second half of the book? What questions do you have?

5. Finish the book before our Sunday, July 26th Zoom meeting. At this meeting we’ll reflect on our completed reading experiences, discuss what we’ve learned, and talk tangible action steps for implementing our new knowledge.
