Home-Hosting 365:

empowering you to curate inclusive, innovative, and intentional Jewish community all year long

So, what is this?

If you’re familiar with home-hosting for Friendseder, Sukkot Sounds, ShavuArt, or Hanukkah, then you’re already half way there! If not, don’t worry - we’ll catch you up to speed real quick. Here’s the breakdown:

  • Who: This is for young adults (20s and 30s) who are local to Metro Detroit (including Ann Arbor)

  • When: Rather than being limited to four times per year, this initiative opens up the calendar to hosting on any day of the year!

  • What: Any gathering you can imagine! From Shabbat dinners, to Jewish book clubs, to movie nights, to holiday celebrations, to crafting circles - it’s all fair game! As long as your gathering is infused with a meaningful Jewish component (which The Well team is here to help with), then it counts!

  • Why is this different from the usual home-hosting that happens around the big holidays? This program is different for a few key reasons: 1) This time around, you’ll be able to decide whether you want your gatherings to stay invite-only or be open to the community, which means a gathering you create and execute has the potential to be part of The Well’s public programming offerings! 2) Where holiday home-hosting is an independant process (The Well only hears about your gathering after the fact when you submit for reimbursement), this is a hands-on process from the start, and you’ll be able to select what kind of support you want to receive from The Well! Our goal is to help young adults develop their hosting skills and diversify the gathering opportunities we’re able to offer the community!

How does it work?

  1. First, you’ll submit the Pre-Event Form.

  2. Then, you’ll have a quick phone call (15-30 minutes) with a Well team member to review your plans and solidify how The Well will support your gathering.

  3. Your gathering happens!

  4. Lastly, you’ll submit the Post-Event Form.

For February 2025 gatherings, think about taking inspiration from Tu B’Shvat!

  • Host a Tu B’Shvat Seder!

  • Seder feeling like too much? What about a potluck dinner and movie night featuring the Seven Species and a nature-themed movie? Perhaps The Lorax is on deck!

  • Just being out in nature is a great place to start. You can take a nature walk with friends and add in this Tu B’Shvat meditation from Hey Alma!
